These pictures are from Halifax in '41. I think the carrier won.

Hi there Mike

Your link doesn't work on a regular computer - you are surfing on a mobile and it's showing only the main "mobile" flickr site - could you find the link from a regular machine?

Thanks

ps. sounds interesting....

worked fine when i brought it up....looks like the carrier may have thrown a track perhaps.

this one has done the rounds a few times, would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when his Sgt gave him a stern dressing down...

Similar accident in Ottawa....

Not sure when or how but have seen pictures of it but can't remember source.

Intersection of Sussex and Rideau.....where Rideau becomes Wellington....

Carrier was travelling East on Wellington turning left on Sussex..... at that point the road is slightly off camber leaning towards the North bound Sussex sidewalk where the 5 and 10 Woolworth was located....

Street was mainly cobble stone and street car tracks where doubled (2 way)and also curved to turn at the intersection...... so lots of worn round cobble stone with steel rails every four feet or so....

This was during a post war street parade (late forties) and probably at the wind up of the parade as the market area was often used as a staging area.... carrier would have been coming from the WW I memorial at Wellington/Elgin/Sparks.....

Carrier sheared to the right as it turned left and skidded sideways in cars parked on Sussex..... damage was minimal but a lot of embarrassment and traffic jam...

Never been able to find the photo again or an accurate account

Bob

I have driven a carrier on cobblestone/brick surfaced road, and it is suicidal. The actual ground contact becomes almost nothing.

wonder why the track is off, i presumed it had thrown it or something
