The mother lode

Check out ebay seller trooper567 , or do a search on that site for bren carrier. He has some of the carrier holy grails up for sale. I suspect this will be a feeding frenzy, especially at the last few minutes.

Some of the items he is posting I have never seen in my few years of collecting. In the wrap track pins with a storage bag. I never even knew such a bag existed.

Hey, how about I call dibs first, and nobody else bids??

I didn't think so. :(

Jordan Baker 05-02-11 02:34

I saw them earlier today. Ive got a bid on the bogie spindle.

Lynn Eades 05-02-11 02:41

How can I bid against you, if you dont post the link :D

Jordan Baker 05-02-11 02:45

Jordan:
I think I saw that spindle tool on Bruce Harris's want list, along with some of the other items. I wouldn't count on that bid of yours holding the pole position for very long.

Jordan Baker 05-02-11 02:52

yah i know. :(

oopsy Jordan, you just got outbid. Not that I expect that one to stand either.

RichardT10829 05-02-11 08:12

i was really hoping knowone had seen this....what would have been a bargain will now be over priced hahahaha. i was after the track pin punch and the snail (track tensioner)

i might bid them up on purpose now Rob Moohahahahahaha :)

just goes to show there is still stuff out there.

They are located in the UK by the way.

rob love 05-02-11 16:06

I really think that between the scarcity of these items, along with their good condition, will see a real bidding frenzy. I can see throwing away common sense come the end.
Midwest military has repros of the snail for $50.

Ron Pier 06-02-11 11:39

I'd quite like to have the grab handles! My current wooden handles are off an old pair of garden shears. Hollowed out and glued on. They look OK but it would be nice to have the real thing. Maybe whoever wins them could get some repros made? However I have got one of the canvas bags for spare track links. Never put that value on it though. Ron

RichardT10829 06-02-11 19:11

the track wrench would be nice too.....mind an impact socket and a bar is much more cheaper :) the track jack is up to 320 GBP if i may be as bold to say...and i apologise if i cause offence....but methinks you need your head read to pay that for a jack ! each to their own but i think i will pass on that one.

The Bedford Boys 06-02-11 19:48

That's a crazy price for a track jack. Dad picked up a pair of old bumper jacks for $5 each, and with a bit of work you can turn them into track jacks easy.

Doug Lavoie 06-02-11 20:26

Did anyone check the list that Brian Asbury has for sale against the E bay listings? I do believe Brian has a number of the items, at a better price. Yes, there are some rare items as well, but... a quick price comparison before hitting the button may save some $$$$$ on some items. Oh, then there is Canada Post!.... Geeeze.
Just my 2 cents.
Doug

RichardT10829 06-02-11 21:17

guys the convoy lamp assembly he has listed (with incorrect part number) its for a Mk2...if anyone has a Mk2 it may be worth the cash although not for much more than its at at the mo.. the light fitting looks like a house hold bayonet fitting i would have expected this to be a water tight affair ?

Gents,
Some of these items in this collection of "stuff" appears to be somewhat misleading. The last two posted items are cleverly suggested to be Canadian Bren Carrier Issue. They are not. Heres what the early issue adjustable and open end wrenchs are supposed to look like.
FYI
Harris

rob love 11-02-11 03:39

I was pretty sure the adjustable wrench was wrong.

I hadn't noticed his Ford marked wrench, but I was pretty sure the wrenches included with both the carriers and the Ford trucks were the Dreadnaught brand. Although I do believe the little wrench is a gray brand.

I will still wager we are going to see some prices on these items that will make our jaws drop, and have us second guessing (with envy) the winners of some of these items.

RichardT10829 11-02-11 10:56

Have you seen the price of the track adjuster snail now ! £35ish from Midwest or pay super bucks for this one... really interesting stuff i have to envy the dude that wins it, that and his / her apparent endless supply of cash.

Though not his/her apparant lack of common sense!

Indeed.

kevin powles 11-02-11 22:53

Hi, Someone gave be a snail track adjuster original not long back, I bought a jack for £100 and thought it was overpriced, these items do come up for sale now and then. just got to look in the right places, wouldnt mind seeing a correct walker jack just to see what its looks like.

kevin.

B. Harris 12-02-11 01:10

Is this what you search? I am working on a colour reference manual for tools and accessories. Can I put you down for a copy WHEN its ready?
Cheers,
Harris

ITEM IS NOT ON EBAY....NOT ON EBAY... NOT ON EBAY>>> NOT ON EBAY

rob love 12-02-11 03:37

I had an original years back....it was still kicking around one of the QMs. Seems to me it had a smaller head on it, and had crossed recesses on top to better support the lifting bar without slipping.

rob love 13-02-11 15:29

The first auction ended a couple of hours ago. This was for a track pin punch. Selling price was $172.54, which is pretty impressive considering Brian Asbury sells them for $70.

6 hours to go for 5 other tools including the track jack and the adjusting cam. They are already at fairly high levels.

You don't win on ebay, you just pay more than anybody else in the world.

RichardT10829 13-02-11 15:39

perhaps i am naive but it has to be someone from here ? pretty much anyone with a carrier worth his/her salt is on this forum ? could this be another cloak and dagger operation by one of our own....perhaps he / she will reveal themself in time

shaun 13-02-11 16:05

As in all interests and life in general, you always get some people who want to take the piss. But they can only do it for a short time eventualy people get to know, im sure we have all experenced them. Brian is a good bench mark for the price of parts, May be the seller had a mate run the prices up for him for some reason !

RichardT10829 13-02-11 16:07

you could be right Shaun. never mind....at least they will remain in the carrier circulatory system :D I need a list from Brian as i have a load of bits i want to get.

horsa 13-02-11 17:32

I also wondered about all of the early bids on the gear he had listed. You wouldn't expect people that had a real interest in the items to be bidding over and over since that only drives what they would have to pay up.

Then again, look at the nutty prices we've seen lately on carriers. Many that aren't even running or restored. The same people that are desperate to have one would probably also pay big bucks for tools and accessories. Simply because they have more money than sense and won't do a little research into what the market price is.

Something to be said for offering one stop shopping. Make note of the prices since your own holdings are going up in value.

rob love 14-02-11 00:43

Anyone know who 8***d is? He won most of today's items.

Idler adjusting spanner: £42.50 /$67.28 (reasonable I guess, compared to whats coming up)

5 Track pins and bag: £225 / $356.17 (Incredible)

Coolant drain wrench: £56 / $88.65 (Steep, when you consider BCA has them listed for $25)

Track Jack: £570/ $902.30 (Unbelievable. I was embarrassed to say what I paid for mine a year ago....maybe now I'll be OK)

Adjusting cam: £128 / $202

I would wager that there is one happy seller somewhere. I guess the buyers too, if it's some of their holy grails. What did we ever do before ebay?

chris vickery 14-02-11 02:45

I hope I run into a cache of carrier stuff one day again. Quite a few years back I had lots of stuff and at todays prices I could retire early.

Brian, if you're out there surfing, maybe its time to go eBay!!! :thup2:

As far as running up the prices, that is what we call "shilling" the bid. In auction circles while not illegal, that I know of, it is unethical. :nono:

As far as carriers owners being on the MLU, I know lots of people who are mv enthusiasts who have absolutely nothing to do with any organized clubs, agencies, forums etc. It makes no sense to me but people have their reasons I suppose... :rolleyes
