Canadian Pickers

The owner is an auction sale buyer/hoarder in eastern Alberta. He has a grain farm (bins, stubble, Quonsetts and plenty of time on his hands). The carrier had the distinctive double sloped rear hull and U-shaped rear plate of a Sherman. The driver and passenger had hatches across the front like a M3 Stuart. No turret or ring or engine cover. An abomination above the track line, standard Carrier underneath. He claimed it was a 1942 that he bought from a vet after seeing a newspaper ad. It is a runner, but he kept calling it a tank :nono:.

The show is a reality theme about two guys (Scot and Sheldon) who go around the country BS'ing and sweet talking other collectors out of their attractive junk. Buy low after bargaining down, sell high to other antique and junk dealers for a profit.

Owner

The guys name is Archie, I did not hear a last name, and he like in Balzac AB. He does ot appear to be a collector/restorer like the majority of the MLU members, but it aside from having what appears to be the totally wrong armour, it does appear to be in good shape.

Gary

P.S. The show is on right now, 2000 PST

Canadian pickers

Hi Guys, if you google 'Universal Carrier on Canadian Pickers' it'll take you to a forum with a link to that particular episode which is no 10. I can't get the link to work but some of the forum members in the Northern Hemisphere are ok. Worth a look. If you do get it going could you please pause it and take a picture for this site. Cheers David.

Why didn't they visit a collector with a proper carrier to shoot their show?

:confused

Sorry Hanno, not all Canadians have history as their goal. The show is "reality TV" which really just means, joking and giving ordinary people a chance to see themselves on national television. The main characters travel around, talking to people about their old junk and then offering them very low prices. The inside story for viewers is the buyers put a resale value on each item, and how much profit margin they made. The other interest is of course the history and tales the buyers and sellers exchange. Most of the time the bargaining is for pride, because the sellers have no idea what their old whatever will sell for on the antique market.

I wonder if the carrier is for sale...someone needs to "fix" it.
