Tank remains...on ebay, sort of...

I'm not sure if this is the forum this should be on - (maybe the for sale section) - but this ebay listing popped up on a truck website. It's for a rough but impressive '30s La France fire engine in Wangaratta in Victoria, but sitting next to it is are the remains of a Grant? Priest? not sure but I wonder if it's for sale too! :salute:

Cheers Warren.

tank

Your on the money warren. It's a grant, thanks for the heads up.

colin jones 27-06-11 05:43

And behind that is the top of a blitz as well. There you go Ryan, thats what you need. Three Grant bottom hulls. That'll keep yer missus happy.
Colin.

Don't listen Ryan - you can never have enough.... :D

Marc van Aalderen 27-06-11 07:43

Ryan,

The more bottoms you get the more tops you will need... :yappy:

Cheers,

Pretty sure Lucas Earthmoving had 2 Grants converted for Earthmoving in Wangaratta, certainly up to 1980 or so. Also can remember 1 or 2 parked up against the Barnawartha Service station mid 70's (35kms north of Wang.). As well as one out Walla Walla way with the original radial we looked at about 8 years ago. For some reason this one also had a quantity of the ice grousers that went on to the track.
So there were quite a few of these beasties in this area, proximity to Bandiana probably had something to do with it. Do not recognise the one shown on the E-Bay ad though.
Be interesting to see, it would only be 1/2 an hour away.
Rich.

Stuart, indeed.

Scrivo18 27-06-11 12:35

I agree Stuart

Ryan 27-06-11 12:41

bottoms

I want more bottoms cause "I like big butts and I cannot lie". :drunk:

I can have all the tanks I want, as long as the other half gets all the sheep she wants. Anybody know of any Damara's and dorpers for sale?

As for the Stuart, with an ebay name like AFVAUS I'm sure they are at least an MLU lurker.

True - I guess you don't have a Stuart tank shuffled off into the wings so that you can give your old Land Rover rims the spotlight...probably an ARVRE person?

Same seller has a Light weight Landy on sale as well:

Nice "bottom" indeed. I was led to believe cut-down tanks were called "bath tub" in Australia.

Him: "Honey, I'm out to buy another bath tub".
Her: "That's great, I need one to wash up after sheering my sheep!"

Anyway, it might even still have the original engine?

No they are Land Rover wheels!

But yes stuart in the background and even another stuart on the other side of the corrugated iron with a just overhauled and re-fitted engine. None of them mine! :(

More than that it's secret.

And Warren it's AAVA not ARVRE!

warren brown 28-06-11 04:36

Ahem .... AAVA ....I knew that - just testing everybody
A secret eh...?

There's a couple of YouTube clips of the engine being started and then running when still in the overhaul cradle, they were posted in the last couple of weeks. There [s(trikethrough)]may be[/s] are more since the engine is now back in the hull.

First start after rebuild

First run.

First movement after re-fit to hull

Running in hull

I saw this Ward La France in May 2006. I think the name Ken Lucas of motorcycle racing fame rings a bell. Just out of Wangaratta, he has a museum of racing bikes and a veteran T Ford. The price on the Ward was only about $5000 in 2006. Very tempted then but not now.
Rick.

matilda IIA 28-06-11 14:57

I visited Ken early in the year as I was intrested in the grant hull and bits but the asking price of 20k in folded notes stumped me somewhat.

Kind regards
