A New Radio Truck 2k1
 

This truck followed me home from Jim Harrisons .. It looked pretty standard , but it would appear to be a wireless truck that would have carried a 2k1 body on the back.
there is ground straps all over the place and aluminum sheided wires running up the frame.
Also has the speaking tube cuttout behind the drivers head.
Questions

What was wired in the left cab half way up with two wires? Look for red circle in the last picture.

Is there any spare 2k1 body parts around ( I did talk to Gord Falk about his left over peices) ?
Does anyone know what the markings could tell us about the truck ? (thats a 45 on the front).

pontiac engine ?
 

while border raiding at an auction in Melita Mb. I bought this rebuilt 1938 pontiac engine on a hope that I could use it in my 1944 c15 radio truck. From a quick glance tonight it looks very close to the original in the truck , heres hoping . Im only out 50 dollars if it doesnt workout.

That's the old 216 Chev dip engine that you need all right. The American Pontiacs used their own flathead six but Canadian ones had the Chev engine. You'll need the right hand drive bellhousing off an army truck.

Couple of thoughts I'm not sure that they used the same engine mounts so I would check the distastes between the various engine mounting bolts front and rear on the engine and on the frame particularly from the front to the rear. Did your replacement engine come with the little ears on the sides of the bell housing? My parts books don't tell me if the car transmission bolt pattern is the same as the truck.

If you can not find a proper CMP bell housing, a left hand clutch housing can be converted to a right hand side (see http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=14363 down at response 11) not a difficult conversion I've done two and they have worked fine.

Was your truck missing the entire engine and transmission unit or was the engine just bad? There are lots of CMP engine and linkage bits so it might be worth looking for a bad CMP engine as a parts donor.

The orgial compete engine is in the truck.so I'm hoping to just transfer all the bits over. 85 HP is the rating. What's the oiginal HP?

Original 216 Cu.In. rated at 85 HP
 

According to most sources CMP 216 Cu.In. were rated at 85 HP at 3400 RPM with a 170 Ft.Lbs. of Torque at 1200 RPM.

Though as you get into the late 40s and early 50s the same basic engine is rated near 100 HP.

I will be interested to hear if the engine you found is dimensionally the same on the outside to mounting points.
