As I was uploading the latest news from Hammond, the house started to rattle a little bit as a formation of five vintage aircraft flew by with what I think was an old Lancaster bomber leading. I didn't have the camera nearby for a quick snapshot, but I did have it for the follow on fly bys of a RCAF CC130 Hercules, two CF-18s and the Snowbird Aerial Demo Team. This of course was part of the 71st anniversary of the Battle of Britain celebration at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa.
http://blogs.ottawacitizen.com/2011/...awa-on-sunday/ I had attended previous ceremonies in various capacities, but now prefer to watch the fly bys which happen conveniently in front of my house. Not to be outdone, Mother Nature put on an equally dazzling display of one of her greatest aerial hunters - a raptor. It was too far away for a better identification, and my cheap camera does not have the resolution needed for a better look. Another interesting day in Ottawa. Gu-11's
Rob
I saw three squadrons of GU-11's across the street in the parking lot this morning....They were squawking and shitting and making a hell of a racket.. Drop by anytime and take some close ups.. Brother Al |

The gag! RCAF huh? likes to fly as much of its presentable hardware for the Battle of Britain parade. This year was no exception because the CF18 demo aircraft and a spare were on hand, the C130 banking and cranking, 8 of 9 Snowbirds (see 'em now before they bend all the remaining Tutors in the inventory, and warbird entrepreneur Michael Potter's 'collection'. That said, the Air Force is pretty busy with getting home from one war and bombing in another, not everything could be spared.
I'm told Potter had his Mustang, Spitfire and Hurricane in the air. A fourth Merlin was up when the Canadian Warbird Heritage's Lancaster flew. An eight Merlin symphony! |
