name your favorite war/military doco series
Let's compile a list of our favorite war / military TV doco series we have enjoyed over the years. Be they WW2 or ancient, army or air force.
My two standout favorite TV doco series are: The World at War ( a WW2 series ) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_World_at_War A 1970s series narrated by Laurence Olivier. And Soldiers, a History of men in Battle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soldier..._Men_in_Battle A 1980s series hosted by Frederick Forsyth. Both of these I only have on VHS taped off the TV. About time a bought them on DVD! |
Definitely the World at War for an absolutely outstanding series.

And coming in 3rd for me is the CBC 1980s series on Vietnam. Vietnam, the 10,000 day war. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam...ousand_Day_War

Waw
The World At War is being shown on British satellite tv...it seems to be a perennial. It may be onthe History Channel?

TV Doco. "One Crowded Hour", the story of Tasmanian cameraman Neil Davis who was responsible for filming some of the most iconic footage of the Vietnam war.
Book of the same name by Tim Bowden. Neil was killed while filming a small uprising in 1985, and filmed that as well. Rich. |

Another for me, and one that I actually own on DVD is the 1960s Australian TV series ANZAC. It's usually played on TV on Anzac day ( 7two this year played most if not all of the series over the whole day ).

Ditto the above, especially the CBC Vietnam series.Plus:
Victory at Sea: outstanding series! Now quite old and have not seen anything of it in years. The Civil War; a Ken Burns series. He must be one of the best doco makers of all time. The War: another Ken Burns film, fantastic parallels between the US home front and the fighting front. Mike C |

A couple decades ago, there was a very good Canada at War series
http://www.onf-nfb.gc.ca/eng/collection/film/?id=30923 they havent re=broadcast that in decades...probably not "PC" these days.. .heck they even put disclaimers on tv before the fishing and hunting shows. "may not be suitable for young viewers".. my we are sensitive these days,,and I guess oh so -urban- and distant from the great outdoors. HOWEVER, that being said, CBC does air a radio drama series that is actually quite good, called "Afghanada" - about a squad on patrol in afghanistan..quite realistic in many ways..they even swear sometimes !!! imagine that. |
