CGT recovery

This could be the last of these bodies to be recovered for restoration.

http://gallery.me.com/oldcmp.net/100...13198512920001

It's a CGT No9 Aust.

hrpearce 29-10-11 06:36

Looks good from that angle Keith, how complete is it?

cliff 29-10-11 06:51

I'm amazed at just how many have turned up and been saved from the scrappy. :thup2:

Keith have/did many #8 GT bodies survive? :)

Keith Webb 29-10-11 07:39

Intact

It is one of the new bodies from Hughes Trading which were rescued back in 1976. It's been in it's previous location for 29 years.

It was one of two which had been fire damaged, which as you can see has ruined the front part of the cab.

http://gallery.me.com/oldcmp.net/100...13198513940001

It was lifted in true recovery style by a wrecker driven by the soon to be 80 John Belfield.

Cliff, in answer to your question there are at least two restorable No8 Chevs and about the same number of Fords.

hrpearce 29-10-11 07:56

I see a bit of cut and paste required the hole above the driver looks a bit big for body filler.

I'm surprised you did not recognise the antique air conditioning Robert :D

Passage of time

Interesting to see what can happen after more than 35 years.

http://gallery.me.com/oldcmp.net/100...13198514190001

And here it is around 1976 when the four bodies were recovered. You can see by the faded red marking on the bottom body it is the same one. Pity the rear doors have disappeared, even bigger pity it wasn't put under cover.

As to the fate of the other three, one was cut up, the other two were rebuilt on C15A chassis.

Hanno Spoelstra 29-10-11 10:43

Keith ,

Great recovery! Is it yours now ?

Hanno

Keith Webb 29-10-11 11:00

Temporarily, yes.

Hi Andrew - when I saw the image of your property I thought I was looking at ours. Many trucks in the same orientation alongside the big shed just like us. The only thing missing in yours is the chook house.

Bob

Very good reading , Keith :) ..... glad to say, I do not have any of those problems ............ yet, that is !

hrpearce 30-10-11 00:44

Verry sound advice Keith, but you still have to be seen doing some work around the house to earn shed time.

Euan,

I only know about the effect of CMPs on women in general. . . .

Hanno

PS: here's a pic Belinda sent me of Keith arriving home after his latest border raid

Keith Webb 01-11-11 11:03

Great pic!

Where did you find that one, Hanno? That's a Chev CGT No8!

Hey Howard,
With a bit of rust repair and paint it could look like this.

New location

The No9 body has arrived at it's new owner's place where soon it will be under cover for the first time in 60 years.

http://gallery.me.com/oldcmp.net/100...13209200330001

Incidentally this was the last CMP moving job the Pajero will do. At 320,000km I've just traded it on a similar one with 240,000 fewer kilometers on it.

It has been the most reliable vehicle I have owned.

Howard 10-11-11 22:24

Reliable?
