Good instructional movies, but the gears in the first one, have no relavance the 1/2 ton Dodge.

The average consumer in 1941 didn't know what a 1/2 ton Dodge pinion shaft looked like :confused gears are gears to joe average :smoker:

No CNC machines back then, instead, they spent countless hours of repetition making stuff on manual lathes :salute:

I've had a lathe of the vintage shown for some 40 years, but never taken any courses in using it. All I've learned has been from books and lots of trial and many many errors.

So I got a kick out of noting several things in the film that I've been doing wrong all along. Hope you can teach an old dog new tricks.

The related videos look interesting will have to spend some time browsing, better than what is on TV anyway.

There is a guy who has many machining training videos on U tube, TUBALCAIN ( spelling might be incorrect, it's a biblical thing apparently ) .He takes you through many lathe jobs , he was a high school teacher . Well worth a look .Here is a sample:
