Ford Carb
 

Hi all,
I am not an expert on Ford, so maybe someone can enlighten me. What I need to know is what is the make and model of carby on a 1944 CMP Ford F60. There is no makers name on it, I need to know, in order to source a repair or gasket set for the carby.

Info as follows:

Ford 95HP Stromberg

Ford 85HP Solex or Zenith

The engines on Fords have been well mixed over the years, if you take the carb off you may be able to see a makers name on the bowl.

If the engine is original unit it will be the 95HP

I would think it must be a Stromberg then, because engine has a RCEME rebuild plate (1953) and the carby is as shown in the manual, so the engine would appear to be a 95 hp.

I was going to try one of the carb specialists, who I normally deal with, for a gasket / repair kit, if possible. Unless you know of a source?

Most Ford flatheads used either the Stromberg 94 or 97 carburetor. The wartime ones were more likely the 97. The numbers refer to the venturi area; either .94 sq. in. or .97 sq. in. The 94 is a taller carb than the 97 that was used after the war.

Thanks.......that narrows it down because I remember the only thing on the carb is a two figure number starting with 9. This will save a lot of time.

.. a HOLLEY 94 carb you should be looking for. The 94 refers to the diameter, not area, of the venturi.

If you can't find a local source, try e-bay motors. Type in "Flathead carb" in the search and be astounded by the results. Old carbs, rebuilt carbs, rebuild kits - the choice is endless.

I should have updated the thread, after finding a website for a concern who are making new ones for the hot rodders. Lot of info on it, I deduced it was a Holley as there was a "H" cast on it as well as "94", also "Model 59" which means it was made in 1946-48 period.
