LP2/2A BGC axle and stub axle thread
 

Hi All,

Would anyone in Aust happen to know the actual thread diameter and pitch, tpi, of the axles and stub axles (not) the top roller axle mounted on centre bogies (as they are retained differently) on the BGC LP2A?

Oops! not the top return roller. It's the bottom road wheel axles and the front idler axles (not the return roller axle) - I think it should be 1-1/4inch 14 tpi and SAE thread but I can't find a tap to match that pitch because the taps available are 12 tpi. Has anyone had this problem and know where I can get a 14 tpi tap SAE??

I've just had a look through "machinery's" screw thread book.
I cannot find anything listed of the size and pitch you have given. It seems they are a special. Maybe someone will point us in the right direction.
Any progress with the tank?

I guess you take the axle and nut to a machinist who can cut or clean up the thread on a lathe,or use a thread chaser to clean it up. Cheaper than USD $70.00 plus freight, then you want a die as well.
How many do you need? and is it the nut or shaft or both. I bet Colin Jones can make or repair both at home (at price of course)

depending on the extent of the problem,you can clean up the axle thread with a triangle file, you can run the nut on a bit and tap the flats with a hammer. Try inter changing nuts on axles, use anti sieze. etc. etc.

Sorry I could'nt reply a bit sooner for this. It is a 1' 1/4 UNF 14TPI. Thread cleaners and or die's are readily available. I purchased mine on Ebay.

It must be ANF then. UNF 1 1/4" is 12 TPI

Thanks Guys. We'll follow up your suggestions. The nuts came in a tin that had had water in it so want to see if the threads will clean up enough.

I'll try and make some slight corrections to my first post when I get near a PC.
