Dear friends !

Here is link on page of South African Air Force Forum with some WW2 images:

http://www.saairforce.co.za/forum/vi...=4134&start=90

Look the truck in middle of page. What type is this ?

By the way - there is some CMP (middle of page again):

Is this CMP 8cwt or 15cwt ?

It's a 1941 Ford

Don't know the exact nomenclature. Also not sure of country of origin - assume it belonged to the South Africans. Looks like someone has stood on the roof. Weird camouflage.

Hopefully the picture linking works...

It is definitely Ford origin, probably 3/4 ton Pickup from 1940, but not sure where it was produced.

Desert Camouflage

The adhoc paint job is very reminiscent of the Moroccan military in the Western Sahara c.1993. Many of the vehicles were painted with tan or brown coloured narrow (paint brush width) zig-zags and banana curves over the darker factory OD. I'll see if I can dig up any of my photos from back then.

Cheers! Mike :support:remember

Thats a german Ford Köln V3000s

PaKlo 23-02-12 18:58

No it is not V3000S. V3000 is 3-tonner truck and this one on the photo is smaller, it is 3/4 ton or 1 1/2 ton maximal, but it is from same production year, so used cab is the same.

hmm what the h... is it then, was there any other european ford factories.
I was to focused on the cab and forgot that it was a small pick up and not a V3000S.
I found two pictures of one with two piece windscreen

the paint could also look a bit like this

cliff 24-02-12 01:38

It is not a European Ford but rather a Commonwealth one in fact it may be something like an Australian 1ton utility. :)

On a closer look it appears there is a commonwealth number plate on the lower RH mudguard. Looks like C7961 or similar ????

Ford 1940 (see the 'V/8' stamped in the bonnet?) 15cwt. Spare is on the wrong side for the 1 ton (Model 01Y) and the body too short, so I think its the 15cwt.

What does the number plate say? '?2961': is it a 'V' or a 'C' at the start?

Mike Kelly care to comment, as you are pretty good with the Ford/Chev 12-15cwt models?

Hi there

Yes I had a look. First thing I noticed is: the doors have single piece glass . This is a Nth. American style cab , not Ford Aust. The Geelong cabs used the quarter windows in the doors , a unique fitting I believe .

I have previously spotted Sth African forces utes , that are outwardly similar to the Aussie vehicles . Just a guess, but that vehicle pictured may have been a African assembled Ford with local pickup bodywork on it .

Hi there!

Well there are a few other features that indicates it is not of Australian origin:-

*door ribs, Aust 40~41 Ford had 3
*spare tyre, Aust Ford Ute had it mounted on the left hand side. (tool box mtd on the right hand side)

The attached photos the 1st with the guy is a Aust 1940 Ford and the 2nd with the woman is a Aust 1941 example.

Niels, the Fords from the US websites are not V3000, they are 1940-42 Fords US manufactured, German units call them V3000 to make them German.. they are 100% US, with the split windcreeen. The Ford in the picture is a 1/2 ton Ford with a different back. Pics of my 1/2 ton Ford.
