Matilda tank on the ABC
Was watching a doco last night on ABC1 about Kangaroos co-exististing with humans when development encroaches on wildlife habitat.
But the high light of the show was four seconds of black an white footage of what looked like a cut down Matilda tank clearing scrub. Anyone else see it? |
|
Certainly is
Yes it certainly was a cut down matilda. In fact if I'm not mistaken it belonged to a friend Max in southern NSW (near Holbrook) which was still working until about 15 years ago. I can't remember what the engine was in the beast now...
I may be in that area soon and will call in and see how he and his wife are and maybe get a contemporary pic if the machine is still there. The vehicle and the owner were well known to the movement but I had not seen the footage before. I traced the hull number and details years ago and it turned out the Matilda had once served with my former unit (1/15th RNSWL) during ww2 when it was known as 1st armoured. Cheers and well spotted Phill |
Not Max's tank.

Good evening gentlemen
Yes its a coupe matilda but not Max and Ian Meiklejohns machine. For your referance Max was unwell and died a few years ago. I actually acquired most of the spares (35 tonne) just prior to Max's death and last year acquired the ballance of the spares and the coupe matilda. "I beleive that Nixsons at wagga modified these machines in the late 50's" Please see attached Kind regards Matt |
matilda
Photo 4 is a Grant tank counter balance off the 75mm right?

Kind regards |
