F15 Identity, History? 59888
4 Attachment(s)
Hi,
Wondering if anyone has any info they could share on our F15. A little while back I noticed its civvy paint had peeled enough to spot an ARN and some careful poking with a screwdriver or something (sanding was useless) revealed some more. Thankfully the number was repeated at an angle across the right vent and I'm pretty sure the first number is a '5'. Thanks Alex |
History
I had a look through the photographs I've taken of the army registration books but don't have that number block. In any event that won't tell you a lot except where it was first issued, what type, tyre size, engine number and usually disposal details and the date it was disposed.
What I can tell you is if that data plate was on your vehicle it was one of the Canadian imports (rather than with the Australian partly built cab and body). It should have the Canadian rather than the Aussie railway plate floor. Quote:

It has checker plate floor in both the 13 cab and the 2CI body. The tag on lower left side of body almost at the rear, says 42 03 and the body serial. Thanks Alex |
I see you guys talking about a tag on the left section of the floor.
Was this only on Aussie models or imports as I have never came across this here in Canada Stew |

That would be an F15 GS, taken on charge in Western Australia. Engine and chassis number 99TF562341. You'll possibly find the engine number on the top edge of the gearbox/clutch housing, rather than on the engine if it is still fitted with the original engine/gearbox. (My first CMP was one of these 4x2 imports, also with a '99TF' prefixed engine/chassis number stamped on the clutch/ghearbox housing)
This is a Canadian Import, with all CDN parts, rather than a Ford Australia-assembled truck with many Australian manufactured cab/body parts. For example, the strengthening straps on the inside of the cabin rear panel will be an inverted 'u' shape, rather than the 'w' shape used by Ford Australia, and there will not be any round 'tag' fixed to the strap with a '29Q' number stamped on it. The hatch will also have the wood spacers fitted between the hatch coaming and the roof, to accommodate the curve of the roof line. And as Keith said, the floor will be the (thinner) raised dash or dash-dot chequer plate, rather than the 1/4 inch railway chequer plate used by Ford Australia. These imports were very early in Australia's move toward replacing modified conventionals with CMPs in tactical applications. Nice find by the sounds of it. Are any Formation or tactical signs visible near the registration numbers on the front scuttle? Mike C |

Thanks Mike and Everyone.
 When I get a chance I'll check for tac signs and other things and also get the rest of the details off the body tag and post up - nice pics you linked to Hanno. Can you clarify re chassis number - is that marked anywhere on the vehicle itself or only on the belhousing? Regards Alex |
The only number I ever found on mine was on the bell housing. The engine was a later replacement, so had a different number (2G37711F), but the one that corresponded with the number listed as the engine/chassist number in the registration books was the one of the bell housing.

From what I've seen, Cab 11 and Cab 12 Fords had numbers on the frame under the cab but Cab 13 didn't. I'v seen a Cab 13 serial facing up by the motor mounts, but only on the one truck.

The serial numbers should be on the frame on the passenger side just a head of the door
