On my recent trip to the top end I came across a small market, and one of the stall holders was displaying these casings. I sat the small arms bullets beside them it for a size reference
Attachment 49839 The owner was trying to get information on the casings, and knew nothing about them. I am guessing they are post-war? Can someone please identify these casings and give us an indication of their use? |
Hi Howard, they look like 30mm used in a Defa?? Mirage jet or similar.
Colin. |
They are 25 mm bushmaster chain gun, mounted on the LAVs current use.

Howard,
I agree with Jason: 25mm cartridge cases and links fired from an M242, 25-mm chain gun as mounted in an ASLAV (or on RAN patrol vessels). The link is the M28. It is a pressed steel two-piece link and only used with the 25-mm cartridges for the M242. The cart cases are the C1030 steel case, annodized with a light olive green finish. The cart case has a characteristic groove around the circumference, a centimetre or so below the shoulder - it is just visible in your image. As far as I know, the current projectiles available in Aust are the APDS-T (M791), HEI-T (M792), and the TP-T (M793). The cases shown could have been loaded with any of the above. Mike C |
Thank you Boys,
The information has been sent to the owner. I am sure that he is grateful. Cheers H |
