Le Reo Macks
I think that was the name, used to be two of them in the eighties parked on a block at Appin in NSW
Trucks were preety complete but in very rusty condition. Were these ever operated by the Australian army and if so how long. Are there any restored ones left Regards Col |

Are they M123's ? |
The correct name for them I now believe is LEROY Macks
The LEROY part of the name is related to the enormous petrol engine that was installed. The truck was at least as large as a Diamond T These two trucks were so surface rusty that you could not read the army numbers on them. Whilst they could have been imported Say from the IA I do not think so, at the time I spotted them they still were drivable. Shame no one else saw them they were clearly seen at the wollongong end of Appin township. Had sort of hoped that someone saved them Yes M123 if not the same were very similair, Whilst with the Air Force we never had the army (I am presuming they belonged to the army) had one presented for loading trails on the C130. Would have been a tight fit. So no one knows their story Regards Col No pictures I am sorry |

Did they look like this one?
Bart Vanderveen's book told me a small quantity of M123 was exported to Australia. Have a nice day, Vlad. |
Yes those are the ones shame no one down here seems to know anything
Every best wish Col |
Col,
The Australian Army did procure a very small number of M123C 6x6 tractors (Truck, Tractor, 10 ton, GS (USA)) in the early 1960s. The M123C was powered by a Le Roi Company 297HP V8 petrol engine of 844 CI displacement. They were equipped with a US-sourced semi-trailer for carrying engineer plant, the designation of which escapes me at the moment. The three models: M123, M123C and M125 (this is the cargo truck version) were all powered by the Le Roi petrol engine, while the M123A1C and M123E2 were powered by the Cummins V8 diesel. Australia also hired two M123 series tractors (various models were provided at different times) and M15A2 tank transporter trailers from US sources in Vietnam, for plant and tank transport. They were returned to the US Army in 1971. Regards Mike C |
