Hello everyone, I should have taken some photo's a bit earlier but this is one of my carriers that was already running with it's original running gear and it is getting the once over.

I love those vehicles and hope to have one some time too. Don't tell my Wife that though :D, she thinks this CMP is my first & last restoration. She's a nice girl but in this case............doesn't have a clue :devil:

P.S: What are those large triangular pieces in the background? Is that the RAAF logo on em?

Keefy you beat me by a short half-head.
I was going to suggest that if you did that to my ute you'd probably end up with a pile of assorted coins on the round... Not to mention empty coke bottles, McDonald's chip boxes, chewing gum wrappers, etc etc... :D
I have often said that if I ever roll my ute, it won't be the impact that kills me, it'll be the $200 worth of two bobs that will take my head clean off!

Mornin' being able to lift these up like that, makes it a very quick job of steam cleaning and prep before grit blasing. Of course I don't like to have them hanhing around too long. :rolleyes
Mike, they are Mirage wings and the palms you see are just part of my little "Oasis" here in Adelaide. :)

Hi All, I think I,ve messed up the pics order but anyway as is to date Hull "2706"

Definately the wrong order!

Just a couple of pics showing the spring compressor in action. The carrier had a busted spring and had to be replaced.

Morning/evening all, In between looking after my kids while my wife's away I got a bit mor done. Turned the carrier up side down, replaced the exhaust system and straighten the protector plates and also free'd up the steering cam and cross shaft. For it's age this carrier is in perfect condition. This is one that I got off a farmer who had it for over 45 years and has always been under cover and uncut.

Also done the steering plate and coupling. And yes that's me above having a silly shot by Dave Lean another MLUer.

Hey Colin, Nice looking carrier, Not far in hull number from my'n, is it a MetGas carrier?.

Hi Justin, mine is a S.A. carrier but the hull was made by metgas as it has spot welded sections. As far as I'm aware, it was only Metgas that spotwelded the hulls. There were quite a few hulls that came from Metgas, finished here at the Islington Railways and given a South Aus number and stamp.
I have a few pics today showing how I remove the bogie shaft with nill damage as they can be very stubborn to remove and very hard to replace.

There is a spanner grip to the end of the shaft which it is worth trying to at least turn the shaft before pressing it out. If you use a hammer and drift to knock it out, chances are you're going to damage the thread and flare the end. With the price of porta power sets these days it is a must to have one in you're workshop.
I have used a couple of 20mm threaded rods and plates to hold my guide in place. One thing you do need to do and thats use a strong clamp to keep the support arms together. If you don't do this you will end up spreading them apart and dissaligning the shaft and believe me it just will not come out. I have got it down to about 12-15mins per wheel with this method. It may not suite everyone but it sure works for me.
Oh! and thats my 6 Year Old :teach:Andrew, I'm just grooming him for future lifting, cleaning, welding, cutting, grinding and making coffee :coffee

Bogie Shaft Removal
 

Hi Colin - I was trying to work out how to configure my porta power set to remove these shafts, but our recent conversation and your detailed images on this thread has now given me the walk up start of how to do it. I cannot remember the details but could you please explain the issue Pedre had whilst removing a shaft.

Bob, I know not of what you say!! Anyway a bit further down the track.

A few bits and pieces painted and a little rework to be completed at the back.

A bit of an upto date except there is 2706 and 2609. Both are S.A.carriers and both are the same configuration.

Each shot is the same place but other carrier.

And the dash/instrument panel done by Dave Lean. A bit of paint, a new set of decals off Ebay and a total of $56. Looks a treat. :)

This is the good part. Putting things back on and giving my shed floor a good clean.

A bit of an update on both carriers. :)

Hey Lew, look forward to seeing the progress on you're carrier. One engine and box is ready and was done by Dave Lean. Most other little thing are done and I've made a couple of repro Vickers holders.
