Bren magazine into Canada
Hi all
I'm presently traveling in France and purchased a Bren gun magazine, well, simply because it looked so good. I return to Canada in a week and need to know if there are any restrictions that would prevent it from returning with me. I have a place for it if I need time to do paperwork, or if it needs to stay here. Thanks Randy Croke |
Randy, You would be breaking the law by bring it back if it still can hold 30 rds, legal limit is 5 rds in canada for mags, pistol is different and set at 10.
If you can block it to 5 rds or have it welded then may not be that big of a deal but as it stands right now its a prohibited weapon regardless if what others will say. Jason |
magazines
I asked myself the same question a while back and found a Customs bulletin that went one step further. Weld the follower to the feed lips and reduce the capacity to zero. Don't call it a machine gun magazine whatever you do. There are rules about importing machine gun parts.
By deactivating it, the border guards, who are only looking out for the best interests of all Canadians, don't have to make a judgement on whether it holds 1, 2, 5 or 10 shots. They default to the RCMP forensics labs which are overworked, and just as likely to throw your mag in the shredder bin and deny its importation. When you get to Canada, take the "magazine-like lump" to a gunsmith and have him modify it as you need. |
Thanks
Jason and Terry
Thanks for the replies. I figured as much, but also didn't want to miss the opportunity to obtain it. If I can't find someone to de-mil it Holland next week, it will remain here until such time as it an be made safe for 'all Canadians'. Randy |
Hi Randy,
Where in Holland are you going? Happy to help out a fellow MLU member if possible. Drop me a PM and we will see if I can assist you. Cheers, |
There are lots of Bren mags in country and they usually run between $10 and $25 each. Not much point importing them, although if you were to pin it to 5 rounds or less with a pop rivet you should be OK. Last mags I sent home I rivetted to zero and left the page from customs re the pinning and highlighted the paragraph. Sure enough my barrack box got opened, and in the end it all made it to me.
If it was a 100 round drum however, they are exempt from the magazine regulations and would be OK to posess in unmodified form. |

If it was a 100 round drum for $25 you might want to pick up as many as you could find!! |
