FORD Blitz fuel pump
1 Attachment(s)
I am having a heap of trouble with my fuel pump. Have been stuffing around for days. I can't get fuel up to the pump. I can suck it up with my mouth and work the pump by hand when its not bolted to the motor and I get fuel. I have put a kit in the pump. It seems that the push rod is not working the pump enough. Have also tried putting a small washer under the arm to give the push rod more push but still no luck. I have ordered another pump but was going to now buy a 6v electic pump. I intend to leave the new mechanical pump on and pump fuel up and through it. I see you can buy a 4-6.5 Lbs Pressure or a 2-4 Lbs pressure pump.
After all that can someone advise me which pressure pump I should be getting? Thanks Darren |
Darren
The low pressure one. The mechanical pump delivers 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 psi. Dont be tempted to use the high pressure one. It will cause you a new headache.

push rod
A common problem is the push rod isnt long enough . Try making the rod longer MIKE

fuel pump not pumping
Hi , most likely the lob on your crankshaft is worn down or the pushrod.
Remove the fuel pump and vent tube and see how high the push rod will lift when you crank over the engine. If the pushrod moves up and down at all, weld 1/8 to 1/4 to the end of the rod, this will make the travel of the rocker arm of the pump to lift higher and pump more fuel |
Another old trick
...was to use an Australian threepence as a spacer in an emergency to give it more lift.

Keep in mind that adding, is only to compensate for wear. If you over do it, something will break.

Fuel Pump
I had a similar problem, turned out to have a hairline crack in the pump housing, enough to suck a gutfull of air. :giveup
