Canadian Wall tent
 

On another thread I was asked to post some pics of my wall tent and i looked through all mine and there was always some mug standing in front of it or otherwise messing up the view so this evening i set it up just to take these pictures. enjoy.

All measures aprox. 6 feet 4 inchs tall .
8 foot 6 inches across the front opening. opens at both ends
7 feet deep end to end.
the walls are 3 feet

Contact Ed Storey for his opinion. He is to Canadian military fabric and uniforms, what some of our fellows here are to metal and machinery.

Looks a lot like an early version of the 80 pounder tent. There was also a larger version nicknamed the 160 pounder. The names referred to the weight of the canvas when stowed in it's bag. They were giving away dozens of these tents back in the late 90s at a local regiment, but most were in the later green colour and of 60s vintage.

I'm sure there is a demand for these original tents or repro ones, where's the supply?

It's the only one I've ever seen or heard of.

I've got two of the "150 pounder" green tents, and it is true, they are heavy. Mine are 60's vintage, and in great condition still...they don't make fabric tarps like those anymore.

I keep a bed in the back of my truck in Case of wife or earthquake! :fry:

Hello,

I have one of these tents minus the poles, are those the issue poles, or how did you rig it?

Do you have any photos of the post and frame?

The original poles were with it but the previuos owner kept them. So I duplicated them, I'll post some pictures. The originals had square steel tubing on the ends that I didn't duplicate. 2 uprights with a metal dowel that stuck through the crossbar and the top of the tent at each end. Nothing compicated.

So where did you find this treasure, would love something like this for reenactments!

....considering they were made in my hometown....Montcalm street in Hull PQ..... near my first school and parish church.....official address of the Coy was Ottawa...... after the war, in my time late 40s, they made football and hockey equipment and we used to raid the carbage containers for rejected plastic football helmets (no linings) which we fitted over our hooded Winter parkas...... then go skating down the parish iced up sleigh run.......

For the Wireless Tent used with the 52-Set, the quantities of the two peg sizes are exactly reversed, just six of the short ones on the left and the larger quantity goes with the longer ones on the right. A bigger tent, however, and a different manufacturer, but still the same Canadian orange canvas.

Ed Wilson noted "Both the 1943 Woods tent and the 1944 S.S. Holden tent are sold to some happy campers. My research says this type of tent was used in signals. It was based off of a British design. I am the seller and my dad was in signals. It makes sense that he heard about the disposal of them first."

I have a British made one of these in the UK and have seen them around for sale from time to time. Mine is 1940 dated iirc.

I have seen them described as Officer's tents and Wireless Tents.

Not sure the official designation though.
