Tin Bleach
Is that actually Bleach? and what is Linera. We need someone of the same vintage to fill us in Nigel,Geoff? :-)

Liners
Ok I make it out better on this computer, liners not linera. So what were the liners for then?

Re: Liners
Sean;
The Liners are what the ammo belts are held in, each liner would hold 1x belt .303 and if memory serves me correctly, 2x Liners per box = 2x belts per box. Cheers :) |

Liners and Belt Boxes
Gentlemen,
Thanks for those great scans of the U'Carrier with Vickers. I have a question for those in the know about the feeding of that breed of MG. There is a carrier of sorts beside the gun itself. It looks like the "Carrier, belt, box, .303-in. Vickers, M.G., Mk 3" outlined in Ian Skennertons Small Arms Identification Series. My question - is that carrier on the U'Carrier mount this mount? It almost appears integral to the mount, and the Carrier Mk3 looks like it hangs on the side of the crosshead. Do those mounts accept liners, or the wooden boxes that belted ammo came in, or the Box, belt, Vickers No. 8, or No. 10 that all seem to carry the Vickers belts??? Thanks for your thoughts. Bleach
Hi there
The Bleach paste was part of the carrier crew's anti-gas equipment. It was used (somehow) for decontamination. Steve |

Hi guys
I don't know whether this image helps but this is the Aussie configuration of Vickers to ammo box. Taken out of Australian Military Forces Carriers, Machine Gun LP., Nos. 2 & 2A Description, Operation and Maintenance Mechanization Pamphlet No.7 1941 The gun just sits in a swivel mount thats bolted onto the front hull.
