The Military Jeep Club of Queensland annual vehicle show and military swap meet is on again! I visited today, driving down the 300km my place. It started Friday, for the gathering, and ends tomorrow (Sunday, 21st October).

What a great day, and fabulous turnout for the club. Many great vehicles, and some very good static displays. They also have a number of 'runs' for the various vehicles, and there were more vehicles arriving all through the day. I imagine the gathering would be significantly larger now, than when I departed at 1300hrs.

Just a few shots, showing the swap, and range of things being offered for sale. The photos can speak for themselves, but if you look VERY closely at the 4th photo, and just to the right of the flag and leaning up against the wooden boxes, you can see a pair of brass window frames for CMP. Seller advised these were possibly made post war. They were in EXTREMELY good shape and would be an instant frame set for someone!

Only reason I didn't buy them, at $150 the pair, was because the way the top section attaches to the lower part does so in a different way to my already finished passenger side frame.

Yeah, it was in fairly good shape, and I didn't see any heavy repairs needed. It was basiclly a stripped shell, but a good stripped shell, without all the buggerising that happens through the years.

I first saw it at 0900hrs, then went to photograph it about 30min later and the SOLD sign was already there!

Met my mate Andy there, who is a member of both the MJCQ and MLU. When I arrived, Andy told me about a replica MG for sale at $300. By the time we walked to that seller some minutes later, it was sold already.

I thought the tyre chains (16" tyres) for $10 each, was just ridiculously cheap too. You couldn't buy the chain for that, surely.

Next year, I take more $$$ with me. :D
My pal Andy had to loan me a few quid today, so I could buy the .50 Cal MG turret I was after. Cheers for that Andy. :salute:

That is the problem with those events, when you see someting you have to think quick because there is always someone following along who will snap it up. I went to the Beaulieu Autojumble in England last month, 2,000+ stalls, saw a few thinks I was interested in, moved on to see if there were others to choose from, better price or condition, coming back either could not find the stall, or it had been sold. Old story!!

Has your friend Andy got a Bedford truck by any chance?

Reminds me of the trip my friend and myself took in 1980. We drove up to the MJCQ swap meet in his 1946 Dodge sedan , the car ran well all the way up and back . It was the fluid drive model with the torque converter . We sat on 100 kmh all the way , what a comfortable trip it was too . We slept in the car .

The event was held at the Cooparoo Aussie rules footy ground , we had a difficult time finding where it was located in Brisbane . We spotted a army Jeep and followed it , after a wnadering tour around the suburbs they realized we were following them , they stopped and said they were also lost as they were from Rockhampton .

At the swap meet a guy was selling NOS Ford and Chev speedo units for $10 each . I bought 2 sets of Dodge big end bearings for $5 a set .

They had a slide show on the Saturday evening . Ian Grieve showed his pics of Corowa from memory .

Canungra is a real good location for the meeting. None of the city 'frustration' and plenty of space to hold the event. One thing that I thought about today was the number of fairly steep hills I would need to go over, if or when I take my truck there, finished.

No-one does slides anymore! I think that's a bit of a shame too. Fond memories of family slide nights, with the projector sometimes skipping past slides because the remote was accidentally pushed twice, or the inevitable slide put in upside down or even sideways.

'You tell the kids that these days, and they wouldn't believe ya!' :D

Geez .....small world, we have been exchanging emails this week regarding his Bedford :)

I guess global warming is hitting Australia differently than elsewhere. Tire chains are strictly a snow and ice 'fashion accessory' in Canada and usually limited to selected public roads because of the damage they cause. Although some farmers keep them year round on their tractors if the farm has slick soils or roads.
