Lack of water

Hi Svenn

Sure looks like a severe lack of water, I suppose they are waiting for the tide to come in, in that case I hope they moved the vehicles. :D :D :D

Cheers

The picture is taken at Trandum Army Camp outside of Oslo. The boat training was part of preparations for crossing river "Nitelva" in Nittedal ion the Oslo city border in a large field exercise called "Bagler". Dwight D Eisenhower inspected parts of this exercise.

Here a couple of pics taken not far from where I live:

You can see on the picture in the first post the Norwegian soldiers wearing german helmets and Mauser rifles.

The Norwegian army had almost none vehicles at the beginning of ww2, and after the war we first got vehicles from the british allied forces and later many US vehicles through the marchal program. There was a lack of weapons and uniform articles as well, so very much german equipment was used. The Norwegian army used WW2 jeeps until late 80's.

The vehicles on the picture are probably X-british army vehicles. We know from the reports from the exercise that they used many jeeps, GMC, 10 cwt GS jeep trailers, and Norton motorbikes.

I have som pics of the river crossing as well, showing the boats in action, I can post them as well if you like, though not showing any vehicles.

Svenn, thank for sharing these pictures plus info.

And yes, that is a Humber Heavy Utility following the jeep carrying Eisenhower.

Your first pictures shows: jeep, C15TA, Dodge D60L, two CMP 3-tonners (Ford F60L or Chevrolet C60L), a German truck (Bussing?), and a third CMP 3-tonner.

Didn't the use of the uniform of the former enemy raise any eyebrows?!?

I think in Holland people would have a heart attack if they would have seen soldiers in German uniforms walking down the street after WW2...

I doubt that it would be very prudent ( good for ones health ) to walk down a street in Holland in a German uniform, just after the War was over!

Old war wounds

Hi guys

Yes I did think it odd how the Danish people would have reacted to a bunch of guys marching through their town in WW2 German uniforms. My old aunty in Hillegom Holland still gets upset when she hears Germans talking loud and yelling. She told me when the town was under German occupation for 5 years in WW2 that the German soldiers were always yelling...

I also had an interesting incident some years ago when I was driving in Amsterdam, my hire car had German number plates on it and some Dutch people were having a go at me, hey " Rot Moff" heb ye nog mie faders fietz ye heb gestolen, " English translation. "Have you still got my fathers bike you stole". Apparently according to my relatives when the German troops were retreating they pinched anything not tied down. However my altercation was quickly defused when I spoke to them and they heard my Aussie accent, they were all very nice to me after that. Some folk have long memories of the war and not all good. :giveup:remember:remember:remember

Cheers

Boats

The boats look familiar as the famous "collapsibles" used to ferry US Airborne over, and British Paras' back during Market Garden?

Boats

Your photo would find an appropriate home in the 'Sappers Mess' forum re: Assault Boats/Storm Boats. It would be very much appreciated as it is one of the finer photos of the type of boat they are disscussing there.

Cheers

Standard British assault boats (yes, collapsible) used during and for many years after the war.
