How do people select which threads to read
 

Hi All

A question how do people decide which threads to read? I've been a member of the MLU forum since its early days and have often wondered how people select threads read.

I have MLU saved on my computer Tab Bar so that when I hit the tab it takes me to the MLU New Posts page. Then I generally read every new thread that has been posted. Then click on tags I've marked as sticky, and hit View First Unread.

Most times I read or at least looked at all the new posts scanning for interesting bits of information. How many of the regular readers do likewise. If you visit MLU at least once a day this is not relatively easy. If your schedule doesn't allow checking MLU everyday this becomes more of a task.

My reason asking is to understand why some threads draw large number views and responses? The along with this goes the opposite why do some threads and questions go unnoticed.

I'm much the same Phil. I check the new postings first.

Often check who is online, and see which threads are being read.
I see a lot of earlier stuff that was not known about.

My practice
 

Generally I'll see what email updates I have from MLU, sometimes using one of them to link me straight to the browser, then when I have read that one go to new posts and usually go on to read all of them.
Occasionally I'll hit new posts again some time later and if there are no posts you can then go to the view today's active threads which sometimes brings up things I decide to have a look at which I may have missed before.

I have MLU in my favorites and log in every morning and night and lunch time if I'm home. I then check new posts and read the latest. I open every new post in another window to keep track of wich ones I've read and usually open 10 at a time so the pictures can be loding while I'm reading others. Then I check who's online and if a thread I haven't read before or havent seen in a long time is being read I check it out. I answer any question I can.

As others say, I'm an addict.

Use the new post feature as usually i'm within 24 hours of last fix.

Don't read much of anything related to WW2 stuff as it isn't my gig, unless it has a hint of recovery etc.

Try to stay within what I know or interests me.

Hi Guys

I can't go the day without checking all the new posts. I go on regular every morning and at various times during the day. I check last thing at night and then the process starts all over again.

Man, MLU is not only informative, like going to school, but bl**dy addictive. I even take the laptop with me when I go overseas, now it has been said to me by some. "GET A BLO*DY LIFE." . But I must have one as every morning I check the newspaper and yep, I am still alive. Go MLU. :coffee:remember :D :cheers:

Which Threads
 

Hi all - I read everything, the main reason being that many threads are side-tracked they themselves being irrelevant to the main thread but still containing useful information

Personally, it depends upon the subject and the name of the poster. I have a very narrow subject field, but am always interested in the postings of some of our members who have shown themselves to be informative, have fun and are personable.

I do hit "New Posts" when I log in and parse from there. Thus, I missed the plea for help in HUP measurements, until a mod reposted the thread. Key words work for me. For example, if someone posted a thread with the Title of: "HUPs with Big Boobs", I would be all over that like a fat kid on a candy bar.
