Chance phonecall

Several months ago, I reported on a vehicle bought to my attention, via a chance phonecall. I purchased said vehicle back in April last year, and then she sat under a sheet until September, when she was pushed into the garage. Since then, she has gone though a complete strip down and rebuild. The attached pictures show her as she is now, with the engine being fired up for the first time in over 30 years last weekend (16/02/2013). The reason for showing the glovebox area, is that at the time of purchase the body appeared to have no glovebox, making it very early, however, having found the body number, which dates the body to mid Feb 42, and then feeling under the dash the remains of the glovebox could be felt, so a new one has been fabricated and installed. Still have a fair bit to complete her, and it's not been without several set backs ( including a cracked early W1 cylinder head), but eventually, this March 42 MB will be another one saved. Parts have been sourced thoughtout the world, including the Philippines, for the correct pintle hook.
And before anyone asks, she will be marked in British markings (not 101st or 82nd)
Regards
Keith

What contract was this vehicle built against?

Keith Orpin 23-02-13 19:32

Frank,
It was a continuation of contract DA-W-398-QM-189, the original contract was W-398-QM-10757. 3110 units of which were supplied to the British over a two year period.
Hope this answers your question

Hi Keith,

One nice looking Jeep. Does this mean the LAAT will go into semi-retirement?

Hows Dan going with his push-bike?

Regards Rick ('n' Jill.)

Keith Orpin 27-02-13 23:26

Hi Rick and Jill
Hope all is well with both of you, and yes Dan still has his bike, which always attracts a lot of attention at shows, so we generally chain it to the Chevy.
The MB will hopefully be used this year as a general rounabout, and not kept just for shows. The Chevy will be going out, but only to local shows, as petrol over here in the UK is £1.40p and rising per litre !. I'll post some pictures of the MB when she is finished.
Best Regards
Keith

Well, hopefully attached are some pictures of the MB finally registered and on her first outing. I must say that I am very pleased with the final result, sadly, as it's taken over 6 months to get her on the road, due to various goverment departments wanting their input, the weather is now cold and wet over here in England, so it's a matter of choosing the right moment to take her out.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoy the pictures

Hi Robert,
Glad you appriciate them (there is a fully restored Dodge WC 51 in the garage as well, which I saved 36 years ago).
Markings are of my dad's old unit in India/Burma
