wheel identification

Hi to all,
can somebody help me with identification of this wheals?

The Bedford Boys 08-04-13 09:54

I believe these are for a English/ Canadian Carrier.

What's the part number that's cast on the front face of the wheel? Should start with either "TL" or "CTL", with TL indicating English manufacture, CTL indicating Canadian manufacture. There should also be a date cast on the front face too.

Some strange markings on the rubber there, and an odd grease nipple located on the inside of the rim ? I don't think these are British wheels or Canadian any markings on the cast work Radek ? If they are Brit / Can wheels they are cast in a way I have never seen before (which means nothing of course)

They arenīt my. I will ask my friend if there are any casting.

A possibility ...........Vickers Armstrong Light Tanks were sold around the World in the 1930's and I think the Russians copied them as well, looks like this is how they have turned up in Czech. David's picture is of one type of these machines.

Could be, according to the tape measure in Radek's pictures the wheel is 7.5 cms wide (roughly 3 inches) - aren't carrier wheels less wide? You should be able to tell us, Rick!

Also, there are engineering differences in track, sprocket and road wheels (see pictures of a surviving Ford V3000S Maultier). Although I have not seen a Maultier in the flesh we did find a Maultier road wheel for sale on one of the stalls at Beltring and noted it was much wider and of entirely different construction than the standard Universal Carrier road wheel - not a surprise when you know Pz.I/II track was used (instead of Carrier track like popular belief has it).
*snip*
Here's a nice picture of the bogie wheels & tracks on a Ford Maultier (source). Now, you tell me these are Universal Carrier parts...

Don't forget the Vickers light tank wheels are wider than a Carrier to.

Yes the Vickers light tank had wider wheels than a English carrier.
But Looking at the fourth pic of Radeks second post these wheels look to have a strenghthening rib in the centre of the spoke on both sides of the wheel, while the Vickers light tank have a single large strenghthening rib on the rear side of each spoke(same as a English carrier wheel).
Im pretty sure these wheels are not vickers light tank unless there was another style of wheel that I havent seen yet.
maybe a better photo of both sides of the wheel can confirm my belief.

Im only guessing now that the could be off a T37 or T60 but im no way an expert of soviet armour.

Luke
