Valentine found

They have found a late model Valentine Mk. IX in a river in Poland ,if you have not seen this before http://www.warhistoryonline.com/war-...rta-river.html This is the 6 pounder equipped valentine, a rare model today, I think

and a longer video here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YxcxQ9IUg0

on a Polish news site.. you can see the data plate clearly.. T=122834 built- Feb 1943 ser=4521

and anothe Polish site with the tank in a museum slightly cleaned up and with some stuff found inside. Lots of polish interviews..if anybody speaks Polish.. Seems to be in a smallish rather mixed museum workshop ...a plane, coupls trucks..other tanks. Lots of interviews..next video has much more of tank insides

This one shows the same place..looks like a workshop ..many more images of the tank although listed as a Mk III for some reason. This one shows the gun as 6pdr No1 Mk1 and seems to say RBG and No V846
When they remove periscope it clearly shows "PERISCOPE TANK INFANTRY MkIII REL CANADA 1942 3876-C

The "MkIII" refers to "Tank Infantry" not to "periscope" as might be thought. Tank, Infantry MkIII was of course the Valentine but when Valentine production ended in Canada the production of these periscopes in Canada by REL continued and they were fitted to Rams, still with the same writing on the periscope. On very late Rams the turret periscopes were 3 1/2" taller to give a better view over the top edge of the turret front but the inscription was still unchanged although the armour shield and the top prism assembly were that much taller.

Has anyone seen one with a date other than 1942 ? I haven't.

David
