Boys rifle muzzle brake.
If you are lucky enough to own a carrier, and even more lucky enough to own a Boys rifle, but not lucky enough to own a Boys rifle with a round muzzle brake, then you know the frustration of having a 8 thousand dollar rifle that won't quite fit right into your carrier. A machinist friend of mine, who recently got into this hobby with his first M38A1Cdn3, decided to make a small run of these brakes using mine for an example. The brakes are a very complicated affair, with dozens of unnecessary radius and cuts, but he copied them all. So here for you entertainment are some shots of one of the copies in the white along with my original.

We seem to have a small gap between the sight and the repro muzzle brake. My original can't be used on the demilled barrel shown as it was altered slightly by the gunsmith who built my barrel and changed the thread pitch. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps727b0411.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps5a650810.jpg |
nice work

Nice work Rob. Without the correct size spacer/washer (if you will), the attachment and barrel end will not withstand the pressure associated with the discharge of a live round. Perhaps more noticeable when the Canadian style is used, as the appearance of being "level" goes beyond aesthetics when firing. Particularly in sandy conditions . . .

When I shot mine on a nice spring day, the round muzzle brake was throwing back pieces of ice the size of my fist. I think I will have to check the orientation of mine and perhaps add a washer if necessary.
