Weight of a For engine
Ford that should be...
Not sure whether this one has been asked before, does anyone know the weight of a flathead with accessories? |

Found this reference on the web. Ford flathead V8 525 lbs 1932 model, integral b'hsg, iron heads Probably close to that figure into the 1950's. David |

That sounds about right - the gearbox and clutch would add about 100 kilos or so (220 pounds).

Offhand, I recall an engine less trans at around 500lbs

The above probably is all correct.
Different specs for different uses and eras. Crankshafts, flywheels, pressure plates, generators, inlet manifolds are the bigger things. So many variations in fans and mountings, water pumps, crank pulleys, down to cam followers, fibre verses alloy cam gears. sump pans etc. etc. |
The French blocks are heavier again, though stated amount varies, depending on whos info you believe.

Your back couldn't tell the difference in weight between models, perceived weight seems to be more time related. I notice gravity gets stronger year by year.

I agree that gravity has more pull on things these days as in my younger years I lifted a v8 block without the crankshaft and heads on to the back of the old ute today the crankshaft alone is heavy enough
