Trolley Jacks and bottle Jacks - Australia
Hello All,
Could people recommend what capacity and brand trolley jacks and bottle jacks they use to work on their trucks in Australia? Say around the size of a Long Wheel base 4WD CMP? Okay I have a 1940 Chevrolet Holden built cab MCP but who knows their luck in the big city? I figure on catering for both my current and future needs. The bottle jacks would be used for change a tyre out on the road and they would be kept stored on the truck most of the time - with some infrequent use in the shed. The trolley jack would be for use in the shed for the majority of the time. Kind Regards Lionel |
Lionel, You can buy a 3.5 ton trolley jack that is reasonably small. They have a reasonable lift, and good enough to lift one end of your vehicle or a corner.
You need to buy jack stands at the same time, and use them. The bottle jack needs to be capable of lifting a loaded vehicle. I'd look for one that has a decent top on it, so that safely catches the axle, and with a decent base for stability. I would also recommend a decent sized block of wood for under it. |
Lionel, I Don't know about trolley jacks but for a bottle jack I would say 10 ton is the minimum and if you are planning on carting a load at all go for a 20 ton.

My Favourite Shop
Hello All,
Thank you for the people who replied to my posting about trolley jacks and bottle jacks. I visited one of my favourite shops today - a locally owned manufacturing and engineering supplier. A company that I think once was the part division for Austoft's Sugar cane harvesters. A local company started by the Toft family. They were brought out by Case Tractors and now the harvesters and cane haul out vehicles are now made overseas and the factory has closed. Anyway the said Toft's kept their parts business and I went in there today looking for a 3.5 ton trolley jack, simply on speculation. There was one on display. As the company do not put prices on their stock I went to their front counter and I was about to ask for the price. Just above the sales desk there was a big black board with the description, "3.5 ton Trolley Jack on sale - discount price until stock runs out - $275.00". Needless to say not long afterwards I was followed out of the store by a kindly salesman with the trolley jack in a nice big box loaded onto a trolley! :) I even managed to support a local company and did not have to pay for any freight. Kind Regards |
Don't buy lotto for a couple of weeks you just used up a good slice of luck
