Correct bolt sizes / lengths question
 

Can anyone tell me what the correct bolt dia/lengths are for the floating axles cast brackets that mount to the hull ? It's the ones with the rollers in that the axle floats on ? All mine were rotted and I have miss placed the two good ones that I did have. ?

Was going to order some modern equivalent bolts in high tensile .

Richard, If you mean the cross tube roller brackets, where they bolt to the hull, then they are all 3/8" BSF of various lengths.
They are all countersunk (obvious) heads. The bottom ones that go through the seal retainers, are flat head, and the upper ones are round (boss)head.
They vary in length. the longer ones about 1 5/8". There is a longer one on the left side for the battery earth strap.

Just for you Richie. You would use three TL 269, and one TL 270. At the end of the day the count is still twenty-two, but be aware of the countersunk only vs boss head countersunk, aka round head countersunk.

I can now confirm that mis-information starts at least as early as from 60 year olds :D
(did you notice that the bolt length in my previous post is now correct?) (Now ask Michael how many different sized bossheads there are in a carrier)

Hahahaha yes mate going to order some high tensile ones I think.

You'll be lucky........Boss heads are not a bolt you can buy off the shelf. You may have to improvise.

Yes just got back... Went countersunk high tensile. Boss heads were a "good luck with that" I could get them in mild but not countersunk which is no use.

My youngest (6 years) has just climbed in and dialled the nuts on for me :)

Should have her back on her tracks By the end of the week.

I had a few boss head bolts made ages ago. I did ask on here but nobody seemed interested in getting a bigger batch done. I could do with a few of the 5/16 size ones.

I've got drawings for them somewhere.

I've found six year olds to be helpful for about 15 minutes then something less helpful usually becomes more interesting at which point I start to wonder if the father son bonding was such a good idea :-)) seeing how many of the 1/2" drive socket set can be joined together to form the biggest tool in the workshop was today's more interesting but less helpful activity.
