Carrier for sale in australia
Sure this has been discussed on here before.
I am interested but too far away for a viewing. I am after a few favours from friends "Down Under" 1) Is this a genuine advert or scam? :nono: 2) Has anyone any further info on it, still for sale, etc? :confused 3) Do we have a member in the area if it is still there (or there at all!!) who could verify it for me (I can pay expenses and beer, only stubbies, no scooners your driving!!) :drunk: 4) Anyone recommend a local shipping agent if the deal did go thru who can deliver over the pond?? :salute: Any further info greatly appreciated. I have mailed the seller and waiting for an answer. Many Thanks in advance  http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/wicke...ier/1023395301 |
Has had a lower hull plate from another carrier stuck on the side as top armour... So you will need to replace that, and rip the dash out of it too.... Otherwise looks good. It is English (or I should say I believe it is) as the engine mount rails are right angle rather than the curved bent type ala Canadian design.
Has had some mods done during a resto at some point but its all fixable with time and cash. Ps I have a repro side armour plate that would fit that side of the carrier. Appears to have Aussie front idlers fitted. I can also help you out with front and rear fenders... Rear armour drawings and a template for all the holes to be drilled on the rear plate. If you want it, secure it with deposit, no offence but now that you have put this in the public domain some unscrupulous types will swoop in and swipe the carrier from under you... There is little honour amongst people who want something badly enough. |
Thanks guys.
My main concern is if its still for sale, or ever was (scam?) Time I have and resorces, cash is as and when, just dont have a carrier!!! :bang: Wait to see if get a reply or a local Mapleleafup "Agent" to investigate! |
It certainly looks to be based on a British carrier. Lots wrong that would need sorting to get it back to MK1 spec but some nice bits too.
I understand that part of its "problem" is its quite a long way from any main transfer points for shipping, getting carriers loaded onto a truck or into a container and moved to port can get expensive quite quickly, you then have to pay to get it home. Once you get it here you have to pay customs and get it home. I can help a little from my experience with the Scout if needed. I can't comment on the advert itself or its its real. Ben |

More concerned if it's a legit advert |
Hi Paul, I can verify the add was and is genuine. I spoke to the owner who is an elderly chap and they did have on their farm for many years. I think it's way over priced for what is left. Transport would also be a very costly exercise from its present location. Not much on the inside is original. I guess it would still be a good starting platform at the "right" price. As far as I know it is still for sale.

It will need to go through the Moveable Cultural Heritage application and approval process before export. Don't take the risk of it being confiscated for lack of appropriate paperwork!

Hmm! possibly not :confused
|
I believe it went through the proper process.
|
The Scout did get all the appropriate approval before it left Australia, including the movable cultural heritage approval. As Mike has said it's better to get it done correctly first. Colin is also correct in that transport can get expensive, there are better prospect carriers available for more realistic money.

Expensive at that price now that I have sat and studied the pics.... IMHO I would offer around 4500 - 5000 (which would get rejected)
|
?
Call me cynical but I detect some sour grapes from fellow MLUers.
It's not as if the Scout wasn't openly offered to all the main Australian armour collectors and Museums... Every aspect of it's export was fully compliant with Australian Law. I would think twice before committing opinion to public forum in future... That is all Regards Phill |
Come on lads keep it nice......
Anyho that was a British carrier being recovered :drunk: Have you had any luck yet Paul ? Took me over a year to locate mine, then a year to battle weather and get it home...... Then so far four years to get it back to where it is....... There is a mk2 for sale in the Netherlands on milweb check it out... Might be nearer your budget, and easier to get home. |
I see four carriers for sale on Milweb. A project at £8000 + and three restored at $45000 US and £50000 and £65000 GBP. Ron

The one in Oz was a good prospect, but judging by what ive been told its a bit of a dog for ther price and hassle of getting it here! :whinge Worth it at half the price as it would cost the same again to get it here! might be a go if price reduced, got to make some calls! The one in Netherlands has a lot of problems, and bits missing that hard to find. Whats with the shiney rivets in the armour?? New rivets or coach bolts?? :confused Could be an armoured money pit, especially with stripped lump, like to do my own and see what im playing with! Waiting for the thumbs up on a few being brought in, rough, not so rough and good condition! Been told these are a better option as not got taxes and transport to worry bout getting them here. Will fit on the 71/2 tonne recovery truck also so a nice jolly jaunt out for the day and its mine! Got two on south coast im working on too! Belong to a trust and trying to convince them that they would look better in my "trust" :thup2: One was a runner a few years ago and other they were keeping as spares, in my book no such thing as a "spares" carrier! :no4: |

If its the carrier in the hedge your wasting your time... Kev and I both tried for sea to save that carrier and offered good money for it... Think Ben also tried, but who knows they may like your accent :
Shaun Hindle has a fantastic carrier for sale and may take part ex. |
Gents ... and Phil in particular...
I made no mention of the Scout: I assumed (not having been the MCH Expert Examiner for some years now) that all was 'hunkie dory' with its export. Indeed, I've been contributing to a private email exchange about its history (with the current owner) for some time. My post was SIMPLY to ensure that the intending exporter of the carrier that is the subject of this thread was alerted to the MCH Act and the possible implications of not following that path. Not everyone, especially overseas, knows of its provisions. Better to know than get caught up in red tape. Mike C |

Lots of hedges down there tho...! Had a good chat with the bloke and he was looking into it for me, havent seen them as waiting for the outcome. Whats Shauns carrier? Pics, thread etc?? |
Strung me along for months.... Carrier with a wrecked engine stripped and up ended in the rear hull.... All the track is shot lying in the rear hull too.... Axle and wheels are all there though and it's a mk1... Will need new track guards and floor to make it safe.......if its the same one ;-)

Yeah it won't be an easy resto that one... Shaun's is a fully restored mk2* and is a minter, he has advertised it in the for sale section, and on milweb.
|
Just re read my original post for this, looked back and says sold!! Anyone on here swooped down and nabbed it on me??
|
The one I am referring too was not advertised.... You have to act quickly and get deposits in things otherwise your wasting your time.

you have to strike while the iron is hot and don't mention it on here for gods sake until after the deal is done.

What people seem to forget with Internet sites that they are not just seen by those who are signed on to this forum. It was on a major sales site not just on here. |
