Canadian Army SERVICE INFORMATION BULLETIN Operating instructions and Workshop Manual, UC-F1 issued November, 1942 for the Universal Carrier, Mark I* under Section F , page F-1 contained following information: "1. Loosen the two adjusting nuts which hold the adjusting brackets , Fig. 4." Figure 4, page F-2 of Manual shows three adjusting nuts. In performing the track adjusting operation, it is necessary to loosen only two nuts "A", Figure 1 (on back of this page). The third nut "B" does not enter the operation and should not be disturbed. Action - By Units - By R.C.O.C. Workshops Amend Manual UC - F1 accordingly. |
To finish the story; The nut on "B" being a castleated (sp?) nut, secured by a split pin. This castle nut backing the said thackery washer, which for those who may not know is a double looped spring washer.
The above info previously supplied to me, by both the thread starter and Doug Lavoie (the forward two anchors have plain nuts (7/8" BSF) and are not drilled for split pins) Good info to have, so thank you for posting Michael R. |
7/8" spring washer

This Thackeray spring washer, as called for on the track adjuster lower rear of three bolts ... does anyone have a source for these in 7/8" ?
As a double coil spring washer, a similar item is common in the hydro line installation business, where the washer can compensate for wood components swelling or shrinking. A different finish for sure. Any hydro linemen have a few spare? |
