Source for felt seals?
 

Does anyone know of a source for the felt seals used in the road wheels? I presume they are not a common part as they have a TL number. If they are an odd size I will get a set waterjet cut as my originals a wrecked, as are the old leather shaft seals.

Alastair, some are felt, some are cork, and they are the early ones. The later design used a std leather lipped seal wilth a cork ring in the side plate.

Alistair, All the Canadian ones I have seen have been cork, I would use graphite gland/pump packing in the correct size, available from any engineering machine suppliers, use the same material to seal your rear axle brake drums, or go for shielded bearings on the outside.

This is the seal arrangement from the British 1943/44 wheels I am rebuilding.

Cork seals
 

When I did the wheels on my carrier I took the shaft and the bit that carries the seal into the local bearing shop, he worked out the inside and outside diamiters then picked out seals off the shelf. Regular lipped seals.

Alastair, I have two ammo boxes full of old british bearing seals all as pictured in your photo, I have always used the Canadian arrangement, You are quite welcome to come and pick out what you need.

Al, you are using the later type seal arrangement,and as with Lews LP2, an ordinary seal does the main job. In your case you just need the side plate seals.
The seals Ben and I need are for the early arrangement.
