Another Carrier ?

One of the guys at our engine forum posted this video recently, at 4mins 26secs a carrier is in the frame:

I know nothing of it, except that it is part of a larger collection of engines, steam and otherwise.

I tried for ages to grab this and apparently they have a second one too. Was told making one good out of the two, owned by a trust,, spoke to several of them over this year and told the same thing that they will put it to the committee meeting etc.....!

I have known of this one for many years, apparently it was laying in water (maybe at Pounds) and bottom is rotted out and engine sump has rusted away just leaving the flange attached to block, so it was like that before they got it I imagine. They have a running Carrier and I was asked to repair the gearbox and they showed me a spare box, (which came from the rusty Carrier) and it had been full of water.

Looks like a DC3 or a Vickers Viking ? Cargo sized door anyway.

I'd agree with DC3 / C-47 based on the double door for cargo and it being situated right at the rear. Just enough room against that back wall for a jump master to stand on the opposite side of the open doors while the stick exits.

Perhaps a Lisunov Li-2? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisunov_Li-2

One of the diversions while studying engineering was hiding out in the university library reading history. One of the books that stuck with me had been presented to the library by the USSR Embassy, a history of "The Great Patriotic War". It was a real contrast to the books written in the other victorious countries (each with their own slants). On further thought - how do you define victory, surely there are only types and degrees of loss.

Would have to be some crane then, that photo location is two fields away from the road backing on to a wood.
