Hi Mike
That was very interesting, thanks for the link. Shows how we take things more seriously now. :D Cheers Tony :no4: |
Looks a lot like shipbreaking in countries like India today....

"Look at Life" series
I've taken a quick peek at a few of these shorts - fascinating.
thanks again |
strange ...the short life of such a big warship.. 14 years.. gone in 1960
if they could have parked it and used it as a training station for a few decades, worth more now in scrap of rare high quality metal than when built...scrap in 1960 was still not worth much. meanwhile here are some wartime scammels and post war brit trucks playing in a mud pit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vd_Zw1N7bok |
The US just sinks their old ships for reefs any more because nobody can afford to scrap them. One aircraft carrier had several companies go bankrupt trying to cut it up. There's so much red tape involved with 'top secret' issues and hazardous materials that it costs way more than the scrap is worth.
How would you get rid of a nuclear reactor? The Russians took that nuclear icebreaker north of Norway and cut the reactor loose to sink in the Arctic ocean but that practice is kind of frowned upon!! |
