Bogie Shims

On the Loyd each Bogie is shimmed away from the crosstube mounting bracket and the retaining collar by circular shims, there is a larger 3.5” OD, 3” ID item and a smaller 3” OD, 2.5” ID item. Did normal Universals use similar shims? I could do with locating some spares as my originals are in a bad way.

Yes the cross tube uses a system of circular shims. You might be better waiting to see what spaces you'd need before your hunt some down. It'll be Sod's law you won't get what you need!!

You could make what you actually need in about 1/2 an hour......

I am getting along with the bogies Ben, just went out at lunch today to get a full Oxygen cylinder and swap my Propane for a fresh one. Did you want the wheels as well as the spring assemblies? Will have to organise a suitable time to drop them back.

Just been pondering this myself... The cross tube on the universal carrier on mine is now back in and I am at the point of putting the bogeys back on and dropping her into her tracks.

There are two shims, a narrow and a slightly larger.... Which one goes on the inside and which one goes on the outside of the bogey ? I foolishly thought they were all the same and chucked them into the box for cleaning.

Rich

You'll have to put the boogies on, check the wheel centreline alignment with the front and rear boogie wheels and then decide what goes were. The scout had a thin inside spacer one side and a thick one the other....... Tracking carrier style.
