Parkerizing carrier parts

Any thoughts as to the use of Parkerizing during the assembly process to rust proof small parts bits and pieces used on the carriers and any other cmp's.
Its a simple process and could have been done on an industrial scale.
I want to parkerize all the bits of the steering and brake linkages and hardware on my MK I.
This was a era where smoking was cool, you could wash your hands in carbon tetra chloride and gun control meant hitting your target.

Slightly off tangent, is Parkerising similar to Sheradising?

It seems that lots of British automotive nuts and bolts in the 1940s and 1950s were Sheridised rather than plated. It has do to with using zinc powder rather than molten zinc.

And does anyone know how to do it?

I don't know that parkerising would be a success in the application you have in mind Roberta. My understanding of it is that it's porous and requires oiling to make it effective. It seems mostly to be used as a small arms finish and is therefore 'maintained' which would not be the case with vehicle components.
Possibly parkerising was not more widely used because of its short comings or quite likely because it required the use of manganese or more specifically manganese dioxide which I believe was in short supply during the war. In other words there may be cheaper more durable finishes. Tin plating is quite successful on small parts, it's non toxic (unlike cadmium) and doesn't cause embrittlement (unlike cadmium). It just doesn't look military and needs to be painted over which you may as well have done in the first place.
That's the limit of my knowledge. Perhaps someone else can add more.

Look into a product called POR 15, its an epoxy paint. I am using it on the restoration of my halftrack, It takes some extra steps in prepping. I used it on many restorations I have done on cars for customers and myself over the years and it just made sense using it on the armor
