Knee action shock fluid

The service books reference a GM PN (sixty years old). Can anyone tell me the correct modern shock fluid?

Shock Fluid

Motorcycle shock oil is avaiable in 1 litre bottles it can be fully synthetic with very good water rejection properties. Oil is available from 5 wieght to 30 wieght you can therefore choose the amount of damping you need.

Engine oil

The Australian Army driver's handbook for Ford CMP's recommends using SAE 50 engine oil for the shock absorbers "For Temperate climates". As Engine oil is also available in a range of viscosities, you could tailor your damping rate, too.

Thanks for all the inputs. I'll be adding the fluid and mounting the shocks in August and will post how it works.
