Carrier brake expander
 

I am not sure what other wartime vehicles they were fitted to, I need the actuator type fitted to Universal Carriers or Loyd Carriers, not the adjuster.

Alistair, Martyn Tasker made a load of these, he lives on your door step maybe worth asking him ? Unless you can find someone who has a set to spare... Good luck

I had problems with these on a Carrier, but as I believe the Loyd has normal truck backplates, pressed steel and not cast like Carriers, then a trailer one will do as studs will not need to be as long as Carrier ones. It is all to do with the length of the studs which as cast in. Probably a standard Girling item. They were used on trailers up until recent times.

Many thanks Richard, you are correct Loyd back plates are a pressed steel affaire. I thought I had enough, then on dismantling one actuator simply crumbled to pieces, it was pure aluminum oxide :blink:

The expander pictured below was for a military trailer, possibly one of the smaller 2 wheeled one form 60's/70's era, I forget which. It is a standard Girling one and their part number is 64225359 and NATO number MT9/2530-99-827-6257. The studs will be correct length for a pressed steel backplate. Forget what the pull rod thread is but think it was UNF. Slots in expander pistons may not be exactly correct to fit the shoes, but easily dealt with.
