Looking for a picture

Hi,
I don't if somebody can help me on this one, but i'm looking for a picture from the Public archives of Canada # PA-114985.If i go on their website the picture is not available, only some info of it.
That photo shows members of the South Saskatchewan Regiment riding in a capture Schwimmwagen (with a white star on it) in Rocquancourt, august 11, 1944. I have a very poor photocopy of it, and would like to get a better one. It's for a modeling project.
So if you have a copy or can tell me how to get it, i will appreciate.
Thanks
Luc D.

Here is the photo that you are looking for. I have made two scans of the photo with different settings. Unfortunately, it is parked under the shadow of a tree so is mush darker than the background.

It is in the book “1944 The Canadians in Normandy” by Reginald H. Roy.

Hey!!!

HEY.... TANSI... Is THAT a "RED RIVER CART" in the background??? Just like all-my-relations used to drive around here, hauling potential buffalo-fur-coats, before Winterpeg was Winterpeg! :D :smoker:

EKOSI :D

What color...

Anyone know something about this picture ?? The white star is painted on the side, but do you think they had repainted the vehicle overall in green ?? Also , on the front left side, you can see a dark mark with a sign in the middle. Is it me or it looks like a maple leaf ??

Hi LUC,

I'm sorry for intruding on your thread here with my silly humour, but that "wagon" behind the vehicle really does look like the kind of carts that were used to haul supplies, and furs, back in the fur trade days. Funny :)

Red River Cart

Hello Karman,

I was thinking of answering you earlier, but my wife and daughter have just arrived back home from a trip overseas. I had other duties to attend to.

The cart in the photo may be a distant relative of the Red River Cart. Most of the ancestors of the French Canadians came from the Normandy region of France. When the French Canadian troops landed in Normandy, they were greeted like long lost relatives. They spoke the same type of French as the locales, and not the snooty French you find in Paris.

Here is a photo taken in Winnipeg in 1883.

Hello Luc,

I don’t think that it was repainted. Here is a close up of the side. You can still see the original stencil that the Germans applied just below the driver position. I think that the Allied markings were just painted over the original Dunkelgelb colour.

Here is a close up of the front. That looks like a 2CID sign. Maybe the AoS was added to the front right corner.
