w w 1 christmas train massacar at Broken Hill

there was mention of this event on ABC radio the other day. this is an event that few poeple know about . As the centinary of this event will be in (i think ) december 2015 it should be rembered.
I have visited the memorial site and noted that the rail vehicle is a NSW standard gauge 4 wheel "S" truck, the actual truck involved was a south australian railways naroiw gauge 3'6" bogie open .

Hello John,

I am not sure whether you are describing the same thing? There was a Battle of Broken Hill on New Year’s Day 1915
http://www.abc.net.au/gnt/history/Tr...s/s1051016.htm Broadcast 6.30pm on 23/02/2004

Some more details about the incident that outlines the picnic train details are found at http://www.postcards-sa.com.au/featu...oken_hill.html

Kind Regards
Lionel

This has been covered before on this forum. Not sure how to search it though.

Gentlemen and ladies,
One of the previous discussions can be found here.
The is another, somewhere on this forum, that I have contributed to, as I visited the site with my family a couple of years back. But ut I cannot find it. I'll have another search when my ADSL is back up, using the mobile phone at the moment.
