Well, after years of waiting, it has started... It's Finished update...
Well, after a long wait, I finally am having my ATG restored.
This is what I started with..... Coming Home....... http://i908.photobucket.com/albums/a...G/DSC06012.jpg What I got..... http://i908.photobucket.com/albums/a...ATG/fa37_1.jpg http://i908.photobucket.com/albums/a...4-29-07002.jpg http://i908.photobucket.com/albums/a...4-29-07004.jpg http://i908.photobucket.com/albums/a...ATG/21a6_1.jpg |
Brave! That was the first word that came up looking at the pictures.
Best of luck on your resto and please keep the pics coming. Cheers, |
The 57 mm isn't one you hear much about.
I met a WW2 vet at an MVPA convention in Portland, Oregon years ago who had been part of a 57 mm gun team in the advance across Europe. He was rightly proud of the fact that at one point they had knocked out an 88 by putting a shot into the ammunition supply. The greatest generation? I've got no argument with that. Good luck with the restoration. David |
Well I hope it will look a LOT better in about a month.
Photos to follow when finished. :thup2: |
Nice find, where did you find it? also i see alot of halftrack stuff on that trailer, fender, engine, rear axle with sprokets
|
It come off a old firing range. I was told. It has a couple bullet holes in the cut off trails that I'm going to leave.
Barrel is bad, and recoil mech is bad, so it will never be live fire, but will make a good static display, or blank fire. I made a LARGE circle to pick up a bunch of stuff for me, and others.... Went from Memphis, to Colorado Springs, to pick up a halftrack engine, and drive axle. Then went to Sonda Arizona, to get fender, and misc floor boards. Then to Phoenix to pick up a lathe. Then to College Station to pick up the cannon. Then home. |
Got a photo of the trails emailed to me.......
Looks pretty good..... :D http://i908.photobucket.com/albums/a...ATG/trails.jpg |
Well I was sent another update photo.......
Installing the barrel.......... Coming back to it's former self.......:D http://i908.photobucket.com/albums/a...14_141318.jpeg |
Coming back together nicely and fast, well done. I can see there is another twin 57mm being restored at the same time?
|
That is at Marshall's place Ordnance.com. He is doing several different ones.
He's doing the restoration on it. He found out a tank must have run over it, because the 3" diameter pin on it was bent, and the had to make a new one for it. |
Here's the latest photos.......

Looks great - wish there was someone over here sufficiently familar with Artillery pieces I could go to to get one of my Pack Howitzers restored properly.
Will be great to see some pics when it's completely done. Tim |
Well, final word is I pick it up on Saturday. I'll get photos of it there, and when I load it up.
