Unusual jerry can/ civvy?
1 Attachment(s)
This passed through my hands recently, for a few minutes.
It was made by "Protectoseal" I suspect it was Fedral government standard and likely some civvy federal agency kit. Can anyone tell me more about it? It is marked in bilingual markings R |
no one?

I did a quick google images on search word protectoseal. Looking through the images, I found several photos similar to your can. A few of the searches led to G503, where one fellow actually got a hold of the company, who told him that style a can was in production from around 58 until the mid 60s if I recall correctly. http://g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=223487 We used to have prtotectoseal cans on issue with the M113s and others for oil cans. I can't say I have ever seen your style in service. |

Yours is very similar to one we use at work, except ours are round. They are a self closing safety can meant to be fire retardant and more durable than plastic. That and the fact you can ground them, unlike the plastic ones which can build up static charge really easily. |
There was a dealer selling these new for $55 at the Christie Lake Antiques show this weekend. Said he had access to a lot more. I couldn't think of a use so I did not buy one. Must be Canadian as as they had english on one side and french on the other.
