M38A1Cdn2 - Period Correct Turn Signal Flasher
 

Hello All,

Can anyone point me in the direction of early 1970's period correct turn signal flasher and lever for a CDN2?

This is what I believe to be true so far...

I've classified them as early/mid/late for discussion purposes.

Early Style:
Spartan SCR-3 Lever with attached harness and ring terminals, no hazard and no cancel.
Turn signal distribution box with screw terminals.

Mid Style:
M-series Lever with shallow body and cannon connectors (has hazards when lever is all the way to the top).
Nartron signal box with cannon connector (metal box with rounded corners, no fins).

Late Style:
M-Series Lever with deep body and cannon connectors (has hazards when lever is all the way to the top).
Finned aluminum signal box with cannon connector.

FWIW, my old unrestored as issued M38A1CDN2 had exactly the same signal stalk as my M151A2:

The flasher box itself was exactly what you described in the last para i.e. "finned aluminum box".

I am not sure the shape of the flasher box related to age as it did to who was supplying them on each contract.

The original flasher setup is similar or identical to that used on the US M37B1 Dodge trucks. They are available surplus in the US. I believe they use a Signal stat 900 arm.

I rarely saw the early flasher system on the Cdn2s by 1980. Almost all had been changed over to the solid state system. I think I saw one come in for repair (repalcemtn to the solid state style), and also saw remnants on a PCCd Jeep from the mid 70s.

I likely have all the components to install the signal system (control unit, flasher and harness) into the Cdn2 if that is the direction you decide to go.

The solid state units are good, just remember though that they are electronic.
I was chasing electrical gremlins on my Cdn3 for a while until I narrowed it down to the turn lever assy.
I took it apart and the board looked ok. I replaced the assembly with a NOS one from the US and all my troubles with the signals disappeared.
