W&P 2014: carriers

Hi folks, just a quick note to all of you that managed to make it !

We had 10 carriers plus the Loyd and the Polish Tankette and covered pretty much all the manufacturers.

Maybe we can arrange it again in a few years and get more !

It was a real pleasure meeting the guys we talk to on here face to face to face, especially the ones from Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Hope to catch up with you all again soon.

See you all next year !

Andy

When I can work out how to reduce the size of photos I will post on here, meantime they are on facebook !

Hhmmmmm fudge, or mud. Lots of both!!!

Good times and good folk to play carriers with. Great video! :)

Lynn Eades 22-07-14 21:04

Andy, oh fudge!!!

on a more serious note, the Kiwis had a great time.
many thanks to Shaun and Steve who so generously hosted us.
it was great to meet you guys, at last putting faces to the names on MLU.

see you again, around the corner in Godzone down under!

Rob Beale 22-07-14 21:27

What a blast!

We three Kiwis enjoyed ourselves at War and Peace. The hospitality of Shaun, Steve and Brian was appreciated. It was great to meet Ben and Ritchie at last after following their posts and seeing the results of their efforts.

For the record we counted 15 carriers including the Carden Loyd and Polish Tankette and Nigel's 3" mortar carrier project.

Watch this space as we in New Zealand are challenging the Aussie carrier record from the 2005 Corowa Year of the Carrier!
So far we have 31 carriers coming to the Wings over Wairarapa airshow in January next year. There will be a range of carrier variants including the two original Bren survivors!

Mud mud mud mud ..... But it did making steering easy

RichardT10829 23-07-14 09:53

I pretty much lived in my carrier all week anyway... A stretcher over the back and I would have been set to sleep in it too ! Infact giving an interview whilst repairing the damned thing was bordering on obsessive hahahaha. Mind the camp we had setup was top drawer, no messing about, just reverse the carrier in out of the weather and you could work on them rain or shine !

Carrier smile

I still have the carrier smile as we are calling it. Once you drive the carrier you can't but help have the smile. They are such an honour to drive. It was great to see all the carriers out. My crew and I had a great time and was delighted to break a few records at the show. Main one being two and a half laps of the arena, usually have had a problem at the one furlong mark! Didn't know carriers could do a tail out slide but saw Ben do one and so we followed. Look forward to seeing more photos and it was good to put faces to names of the NZ and Canadian contingent. Andy thanks for your arena work and whisky!

Nigel

Fudge!

... who watched too much Python as a impressionable youth?

ajmac 24-07-14 10:34

Looks like a good time for all. Sorry I couldn't make it. Did any of the show awards go to Carriers this year?

Andy Mitchell 24-07-14 10:38

Just a thought, how many of the carriers from W & P are on the XXX Corps run ?

As long as I have fixed the F30 akle I will be carrying 43 Recce kit ! And if not fixed will need some classy transport !

The show was great .... Finally met up with Internet friends from all over the carrier world .

Rob gave me a New Zealand flag ..... Lynn gave me his old coveralls ! Said I would make good use of both ..... So sorry this is not a carrier photo .

Ben 25-07-14 11:46

I just hope you weren't wearing the flag!

Richies carrier is now on its last leg of its journey home from W&P show .
We washed most of the mud off before it left and was there a lot of mud!! So that's it all done until next year .
