18 Pdr MkV
I thought I would post some pictures of my latest restoration of a 1920 18Pdr MkV as there is very little info and few images for this piece on the inter web.
I have just carried out a full restoration from a seized Gate Guard to a fully operation Field Gun. There is only a handful of these MkV's left in preservation around the world today making it a very worthy project. Rob....................rnixartillery. |
and a few more !

Rob, That's a very nice restoration, would you happen to have an indication of the year these pics were taken. My Granddads' in both pictures.

As a post war piece, I have no doubt it's tolerances were worn smooth from drill after drill. Any idea of the production numbers of these guns?

I have found very little info on this Model so although I know they were manufactured in smaller numbers compared with earlier Marks I don't have the production final numbers. |
Rob. Very nice work as always.
Considering this piece of artillery went through at least five marks, either it was a very popular piece in its day, or the powers that be spent an amazing amount of time and energy trying to get it right! Have you any indications what finally prompted its replacement (other than the Gunners basic love for things that make a bigger bang). :) David |
