Timken front axle
We need a heavy duty Timken front axle for our 2WD 1942 Chev 1533X2 LRDG replica truck. The Timken front axle is 100mm longer, heavier and also thicker than the standard L/L Chev front axle. In New Zealand they are harder to find than rocking-horse faeces, but we understand they may be more common in Australia. Can anyone help?

Only a theory...
Not 100% sure Andrew but I think the front axle of a GMC 6X4 may also suit your needs...
They may be even rarer than the Timken axle in New Zealand. Did NZ get deliveries of GMC trucks during the war? |
Hi Andrew,
Just a question mate are you looking for a "I" Beam Front axle and is it the same as to what they use's in the C-15 & F-15 biltz's. Regards Ian |
Tony,
Large numbers of 6X4 GMC trucks were brought to NZ during WWII and many still survive. In fact there is a rusting hulk of one sitting in a paddock not far away from us here. It will be great if that is what we need, as I think the owner would let us have it. Problem is I don't know what a Timken front axle looks like. They are "beam" axles in the sense of being 2WD (ie no diff) and are similar to the L/L Chev 2WD front axle, but heavier, thicker and 100mm longer. The wheel track is 100mm wider and the front mudguards of the LRDG trucks were widened to suit). |
