What rank is Supervisor - DDay Canadians
I am working on improving the Wiki page for the Sherbrooke Hussars, so I have been reading the regimental history. In the Appendices is a list of "Officers of the 27th Armoured Regiment on "D" Day". The last entry below the Lieutenants is someone with the rank of Supervisor. What is this rank?

Probably somebodies wife.

Did they have a Regimental Mascot, by any chance? I have seen them named in records from other Regiments from time to time.

Supervisor
The entry is "Supervisor Robin Turpett, Toronto". I thought it might be one of the oddball Ordnance Corps ranks, but why list it below the subalterns? As for mascots, I doubt this is such a case.

Found it!
A civilian accompanying forward forces.
"Second World War There were four primary National Voluntary Organizations active during the Second World War, following a Government announcement in Nov 1939: Canadian Legion War Services Knight's of Columbus Canadian Army Huts Salvation Army Canadian War Services Canadian Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) Overseas The objective of these organizations was to care for the physical welfare of the men (while the Canadian Chaplain's Service cared for the spiritual welfare). Civilian representatives of the services were permitted to serve in the field with units of the Canadian military, and wore uniforms with appropriate insignia; they did not hold rank in the armed forces and were referred to as "Supervisors", though they enjoyed officers' priviliges and were paid by the Government the same salary as a captain in the Army." |
