Unknown small box on rear of CMP
1 Attachment(s)
Hi all
Can't remember where I found this picture. However I did notice an unusual to me fitting. Below the box deck and just above the tow hook there appears to be a box holding a number of round cylinders. Anyone have ideas on what they are? |
Poles
Just like the ones he has recently taken out of that rack that are lying on the ground.
|
Also trying to figure out what he is doing. It appears as if he is putting what ever is in the box into the end of them.
|
Is he loading Bangalore Torpedos by any chance?
|
I'm no expert, but it would appear the fellow is with the Royal Canadian Engineers and may be assembling an octagonal drill.
I make these deductions because: a) he has what appears to be an RCE badge on his upper sleeve b) the lid of the box says octagonal drill. Edited to add (and like I said I am no expert) that Ross shot me an email that the octagonal likely refers to the bits used on the drill. A google search turned up similar information. Perhaps the truck is one of the drilling lorries. |
I can't see it being Bangalore's as that doesn't seem like a good place to carry them.
Thanks Rob, I couldn't figure out what full label said on the box. I had the drill part but not the octagonal. Yes his badge appears to be 1st Canadian Army RCE. |
Bits
Bits, octagonal drill. How else could you drill a square hole?

And here I always thought people were joking when they talked about drilling a square hole
|
Just noticed the CL number on the rear mud flap. Never seen that done before on a truck of lorry.

drill rod
Engineer's diamond drill rod with rod holder mounted under the truck, used with the screw on diamond tips or carbide replaceable ends, used for hard rock drilling and blasting . Probably used with a Punjab drill, or Pionjar drill
